In the unsettling new Netflix documentary Trainwreck: Poop Cruise, survivors of the ill-fated Carnival Triumph voyage share one unexpectedly x-rated detail of their harrowing experience.
For those who haven't seen this addition to the streaming service, the doc recounts the story of 4,000 passengers who faced a nightmare 12 years ago when their cruise from Texas to Mexico turned into a disaster filled with urine and feces.
This four-day ordeal began with a critical electrical failure, following a fire ignited by a failed fuel oil return line that sprayed gasoline onto a hot surface, causing catastrophic damage to the ship's generator.

The immediate power outage knocked out both the ship's main systems and propulsion, leaving passengers stranded in the waters off the coast of Mexico for nearly a week.
Not only were vacationers forced to ration the scarce food and water supplies on board, but they also had to endure a serious biohazard when raw sewage began backing up onto deck areas.
Netflix's documentary includes stomach-churning accounts from several passengers and Carnival staff, one of whom shared a particularly shocking element of the incident.

One day after the power failure, the crew decided to open the ship's numerous bars, leading passengers to indulge in alcohol during their nightmarish trip.
According to cruise director Jen, she believed it was a poor decision, fearing people would 'go nuts' - which they did.
Reports from People indicate that passengers urinated over the side of the ship, fights broke out, and red bags filled with human waste were thrown onto lifeboats, prompting the crew to quickly shut down the bar idea.

But that wasn't the end of the chaos, as several guests claimed that the cruise descended into even greater disorder.
Due to the lack of air conditioning, passengers moved their mattresses onto the deck, where tensions rose over space and food rations, and some claimed that certain passengers even began having sex on the deck.
Discussing this unnerving documentary, one viewer criticized the decision to open the bars on Reddit, calling it 'really stupid', and adding: "What did you expect?? They've been stuck there for 4 days."
Another agreed, noting that those claiming areas as 'their space' suggested they 'may have had children with them'.

"I could totally see myself doing that to keep my child safe and away from all that," they continued.
"Oh absolutely!!!" someone else responded. "I hadn’t even thought of that, but you're right. I imagine those with children experienced an extra level of hell (like the man with his preteen daughter). The added stress of having to care for and protect them in such chaos must have been overwhelming."
A fourth added: "Yes! It was a reminder that there were children there too. Hearing about all the drunk people fighting and having sex in the open. Ugh."

"Oh, those poor children and their parents. How terrible," a fifth remarked.
According to another Carnival passenger who recently spoke to the press, after the ship was finally towed to Mobile, Alabama over several days, the travel company provided a small compensation of $500.
They are also reported to have issued refunds for the trip home for each passenger.
