Ben Affleck and Jennifer Garner’s daughter Violet makes emotional masks plea as brave reason she wears one in public is revealed

Violet Affleck has once again demonstrated her commitment to using her platform for advocacy, and her latest compelling speech sheds light on why she frequently wears a face mask in public.

Violet is the oldest daughter of Daredevil stars Ben Affleck and Jennifer Garner, who were married from 2005 to 2015, with their divorce finalized in 2018. The former couple also shares Violet's siblings, Seraphina, 16, and Samuel, 13.

The 19-year-old Yale student appeared at the United Nations in New York this week as part of an event called 'Healthy Indoor Air: A Global Call to Action'.

In a fervent appeal, she urged world leaders to take airborne illnesses seriously and insisted that the battle against long COVID is far from concluded.

Violet told the audience: “It is a grave neglect to look children in the eyes and say, ‘We knew how to protect you, and we didn’t do it’."

She also criticized society’s rush to return to 'normal' while minimizing the ongoing dangers.

Violet argued that clean air should be viewed as a fundamental human right, just like clean water, adding: "We can establish clean air infrastructure that becomes so widespread and evidently necessary, future generations won’t even understand why it was needed."

She added that 'long COVID has surpassed asthma as the most prevalent chronic illness in children five years and under', and expressed her 'fear' for children who 'may never know a world without debilitating pain and exhaustion' following COVID.

She continued: "Young people have been deprived of both real choices and information about the decisions made for us."

"Leaders tell us that we are the future. Yet, with the ongoing pandemic, our present is being taken from us right before our eyes," Violet added.

In 2019, the 19-year-old was diagnosed with a 'post-viral condition', which she disclosed in her speech to the LA County Board of Supervisors last year.

"I’m OK now, but I witnessed firsthand that medicine doesn’t always have answers to the effects of even minor viruses,” she said.

That reality, she explained, is why she continues to wear a mask in public – even long after mandates were lifted.

She further cautioned against banning masks, arguing that such actions 'do not make us safer', but instead render 'vulnerable community members less safe'.

At the UN this week, Violet reinforced her demands, calling for universal healthcare, paid sick leave, and the free distribution of masks to those who need them.

She also previously urged the county to 'increase access to high-quality free tests and treatment, and most importantly, to oppose any mask bans'.
